I am delighted to share with you some of the additional resources that have enriched my life and work over the years. The audiotape and videotape programs are dynamic and impactful. The older ones are as relevant today as they were when they were first produced. New ones are added to my list all the time. Testing and assessment resources, as well as music resources and web resources, are also shared and frequently updated in this Resources section.

Testing & Assessments

Personality Assessment: Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator

I frequently use the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) in my personal, career, and business coaching and training. Although I am not yet certified to administer this assessment, I am experienced in interpreting and working with the resulting type information. Here are some ways you can be tested inexpensively and/or get more information about your type:

  • For online testing, visit: www.personalitypage.com. There is a $5 charge to take the test, payable by credit card. The convenience, speed, and quality of results are worth the small charge.
  • For online testing, visit: www.humanmetrics.com. Take the Jung Typology Test (yields MBTI results). No charge.

  • For free, in-person, MBTI testing on the North Shore, contact:

    North Shore Career Centers
    Salem (978) 825-7200
    Lynn (781) 593-0585
    Gloucester (978) 283-4772

  • The Salem and Lynn locations offer workshops on various career-exploration and job-search topics, including one on taking and interpreting the MBTI assessment. These workshops are free. Call to get a schedule and set an appointment. The workshops are given during the day, M-F, for two hours, either morning or afternoon. They are usually offered at least twice a month.

  • For additional information about your Meyers-Briggs type, visit: www.typelogic.com. Also check out the book Do What You Are by Paul D. Tieger & Barbara Barron-Tieger.

  • To obtain a copy of the official Meyers-Briggs testing instrument, contact:

Aptitude Testing:

Aptitude testing reveals skills and abilities that you are naturally good at, ones you were born with. These aptitudes can often suggest career or job options you may not have considered. If you are in school or are a recent high school or college graduate, contact your high school guidance office or college career center to inquire about aptitude testing.

Other resources for aptitude testing might include career centers, government agencies, human resources departments in large companies, outplacement companies, and other private companies.

One excellent aptitude-testing program that I have experienced personally is offered through the Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation. This thorough program consists of a battery of aptitude tests administered over a two-day period, followed by a session with a counselor to go over and interpret the results. A detailed printed report is also provided. This program is costly, but if you can afford it, it is worth the money.
